"Active Non-human Terrain" explores the social environment of the living, the object and the synthetic. The viewer is exposed to a critique of the future or the past, with the intention of making us resist the present day through theirs and our own terrain. Paul Virilio determined cyberspace as our “living present,” noting it was “hardly more than a “LIVING CINEMA”. Active Non-human Terrain creates a living mausoleum that has not yet been written in the history books. It is universally controlled and allows us to resist our animal bodies, favoring the mineral and cosmic over the conscious.
The iPhone can easily destroy the planes and layers of established vision technologies such as the object, mineral or animal as well as substituting itself for our natural environment—Is this a fictional drug or a life drug?
Working through ideas of online neo cultural psychology, Omsk Social Club feat PUNK IS DADA decided to work through a series of over-identification problems through object and mineral. Trying to find a form that gains surplus alienation in today’s world of object-orientated estrangement. The work came to a head through defamiliarization; breaking habitual perception codes but offering information to become a form of recognition. The Series entitled "YOLO Forms" is the beginning of this development. Each Lifeform is given a personal name, finding report (including atomic mass) and mineral family. Each form also has a series of hobbies and things it likes to do outside of the white cube, which is documented via Facebook and Instagram (yolo_form) allowing the forms to be accepted through peer-to-peer foundations and open source sharing communities. YOLO comes from the acronym “you only live once,” allowing ideas of the exit strategy, the anthropocene and the neo/no future to play into our daily lives through the use of documentation, free time and online platforms. The regal peers such as Ice Dawn Aika are the elders of these younger forms; they must be kept inside a conditioned space (the gallery). As they were some of the first species to be found, they have not adapted to society as well as, say, Iris Rain Miku.
